Tremendous upgrades? I think you need to go back to take a closer look at history. Most of the great wars of the last 2000 years at least were fought because of the “great” religions. Mass genocide on numerous occasions was sanctioned by all of them.

As for Jesus, most of his teachings, if he existed at all, were heavily modified or simply made up four hundred years later by Constantine I mainly for political reasons.

And this progression of ethics and morals you mention didn’t happen that way. Modern democracy is mostly based on the Ancient Greek system who were Pagans. The Dark Ages took place in Europe under Christian rule.

Monotheism arose mainly because of humans began farming.

Read Guns, Germs, and Steel by Jared Diamond.

The human brain is fairly good at pattern recognition which obviously evolved over time to help us survive. But as a result our brains are also really good at searching for and thinking we have found patterns that don’t exist. There is no natural order. Chaos is the engine of the universe. We can give meaning to our own lives while we are alive, but searching for some deeper universal meaning will lead to a lot of wasted time. That was the point I was trying to make when I wrote about my experiences. It seems like that message was lost in the descriptions of the fireworks though.

I feel like I need to write a second article to explain and dismiss the first one.
