The planet itself is in no danger. What is at risk is pretty much all life with the exception of a handful of very hardy Extremophiles.

Ironically the only creatures on the planet that actually have the power to reverse the current extinction taking place is us. If we reach the point in which humans begin going extinct it will be far too late for all other living beings on the planet with the exception of the Extemophiles, some of which will probably survive even the death of the sun. Maybe Tarigrades will eventually evolve into smarter and better creatures than we have been so far.
