*This was the very first novel I wrote. I started it in 1999 and finished the first draft in 2003. After several years of failed attempts to shop it around to literary agents and publisher I finally gave up. I still think it is a good first novel, so I’ve decided to share it here on Medium. Enjoy!
Chapter 3 (Day 8)
On Friday morning Yuma stopped by Jeri’s Tavern. He liked to stop in when ever he had to leave town for more than a day to get a feel for the mood of Trajico Bay before he left. He also knew he could find Geezer here. He wanted to check in with him before he left to make sure everything was okay in town. Yuma knew by Friday night the town’s population of two hundred residents would suddenly swell to over three thousand. Normally, it wasn’t a big deal. The people that came were veterans of these types of events and were peaceful and respectful of the town, but this year with the construction crew taking over the meadow he felt like there was the potential for something to happen.
In the past they had used Hip-In Meadow’s small forest and meadow with little or no problems. Yuma had only made four arrests in the all the years he’d been sheriff in Trajico Bay and two of those had been called in by the hippies…
