*This was the very first novel I wrote. I started it in 1999 and finished the first draft in 2003. After several years of failed attempts to shop it around to literary agents and publisher I finally gave up. I still think it is a good first novel, so I’ve decided to share it here on Medium. Enjoy!
Chapter 2 (Day 7)
He walked to the edge of his property and looked down the bank towards the bay. He could see little white caps rolling in with the incoming tide. He whistled for his lab mix Loopy and thought again about the growing tension between the commune and the construction crew. Two days after they had arrived they began posting “No Trespassing” signs around the meadow. Yuma had attended an emergency community meeting called by the town at Jeri’s Tavern, which generally doubled as city hall, to decide what to do about the Hip-In Festival, since the meadow would not be available this year. Jeri, the owner of the Jeri’s Tavern, a short tough looking woman had offered the three and a half acres behind her bar, which was fine space wise, but was mostly a gravel lot with no trees to provide shade. With the problem of a location for the Hip-In Festival settled Trajico Bay had continued its preparation, but an uneasiness…
