Week 1–3
*This was the very first novel I wrote. I started it in 1999 and finished the first draft in 2003. After several years of failed attempts to shop it around to literary agents and publisher I finally gave up. I still think it is a good first novel, so I’ve decided to share it here on Medium. Enjoy!
Chapter 6 (Day 27)
The jobs began very roughly with lots of starts and stops. The slogan group developed writers block, though they seemed to be able to verbalize very easily, Geezer thought, when they were shouting at each other. The sign making group made a little more progress in that they had seven different working proto-types, but couldn’t agree on one that they felt met their criteria for functionality, durability, and aesthetics. The painting and transporting group stood by bored and watched the other two groups struggle. Geezer could feel all the free floating excitement in the air over the protest march was somehow stifling their creativity. He stuck his hands deep in his pockets, bowed his head, and tried to fondle a solution from his brain. As his mind wandered through possible solutions that led mostly to dead ends his fingers dug deeper into his pockets until they came upon Magic Joe’s plastic baggie filled with soft squishy mushrooms warmed…
