Steve B Howard 2019

*This was the very first novel I wrote. I started it in 1999 and finished the first draft in 2003. After several years of failed attempts to shop it around to literary agents and publisher I finally gave up. I still think it is a good first novel, so I’ve decided to share it here on Medium. Enjoy!

Chapter 6 (Day 25)

At dawn Geezer and Fredrick crossed Tact Road and headed for the main gate fully expecting to hear the sound of multiply chainsaws tearing away at the trees in the meadow. They reached the gate and found a large steel padlock baring the gate. They studying the fence for a few moments then Fredrick pulled off his red flannel jacket and threw it over the top of the razor wire and started climbing. Fredrick reached the top of the fence, bent over at the waist to grab the other side and did a neat swing to get his legs over and on the ground. Geezer hesitated on the other side.

“Come on Geezer you know how to do this. Remember Philadelphia back in ’68.”

Geezer did remember, but mostly he remembered being arrested for trespassing and spending two days in jail in a cold damp cell until Maggie raised bail money to get them out.
