*This was the very first novel I wrote. I started it in 1999 and finished the first draft in 2003. After several years of failed attempts to shop it around to literary agents and publisher I finally gave up. I still think it is a good first novel, so I’ve decided to share it here on Medium. Enjoy!

Chapter 5 (page 23)
The construction crew drove two trucks back to the entrance of Hip-In Meadow and began unloading large spotlights. Geezer heard the roar of a generator start up and suddenly harsh white light from the spotlights lit up the area bordering Hip-In Meadow. Geezer heard Austin shout orders over the generator and he watched as the construction workers built a cyclone fence with razor wire skirting the top. “No Trespassing” signs marked the fence every ten feet. In two hours the fence ran from the base of Mt. Vasquez to the bluff over looking the beach.

While the fence was built the Hip-In stagnated. The construction crew and highway patrol had returned to Trajico Bay just as a punk fusion band had finished their set. All the hippies vacated the area around stage as to see what was causing all the commotion in Hip-In Meadow. They all watched like onlookers at a disaster scene as Hip-In Meadow was closed off to them…
