*This was the very first novel I wrote. I started it in 1999 and finished the first draft in 2003. After several years of failed attempts to shop it around to literary agents and publisher I finally gave up. I still think it is a good first novel, so I’ve decided to share it here on Medium. Enjoy!
Chapter 3 (page 17)
At the edge of the row of booths Geezer was suddenly startled by Sam as he came around the corner of one of the booths. They eyed each other for a moment until Geezer nodded his head and said, “Hello Sam”. Geezer saw him look at the garbage bag for a moment before saying hello.
“How’s the Hip-In going so far?” Sam asked.
“Pretty good considering,” Geezer said gesturing around the gravel lot.
“Making any money?”
“Maggie says the food court’s doing real well so far.”
Sam shrugged and walked past nodding his head goodbye. Geezer mumbled an uneasy “goodbye” in return.
