*This was the very first novel I wrote. I started it in 1999 and finished the first draft in 2003. After several years of failed attempts to shop it around to literary agents and publisher I finally gave up. I still think it is a good first novel, so I’ve decided to share it here on Medium. Enjoy!

Chapter 3 (page 14)

Everyone turned and looked towards the parking lot of Jeri’s Tavern. An old school bus the same size and shape as Phil was easing itself into a parking spot. Though it was the same year and model as Phil, it was primer grey instead of Phil’s vibrant rainbow of colors. Geezer watched it park, smiled, and said softly, “Lava is here.”

Soon the bus was surrounded by the Kind Cloud Farm members. Lava and the Fast Time Boys had arrived in Trajico Bay. For sixteen years they had been coming to the Hip-In to play their eclectic blend of various musical styles and had become the clear favorite over the years. Lava had started out in San Francisco as a sort of drag-queen Joni Mitchell in the late sixties, but had switched over to Glam rock in the seventies and eventually gained a strong cult following. Geezer befriended Lava back when she played for change in the Haight…
