*This was the very first novel I wrote. I started it in 1999 and finished the first draft in 2003. After several years of failed attempts to shop it around to literary agents and publisher I finally gave up. I still think it is a good first novel, so I’ve decided to share it here on Medium. Enjoy!

Chapter 3 (page 12)

The rest of Kind Cloud Farm and many of the town members, with the exception of Sam, cleared an area of pea gravel so the people would have a smoother place to set up their tents. The rocks from the old fire pits were moved from Hip-In Meadow and arranged in the new campsite. Everyone tried to stay busy to avoid feeling the loss of Hip-In Meadow, but most eyes were a little teary by the end of the day.

For three days out of each year the Hip-In Meadow had been a second home. Many of them had been coming to Trajico Bay for the Hip-In for the past twenty four years. It was an unnatural state for Hip-In Meadow to be filled with trucks and men probing and prodding the ground, moving dirt here and there, speculating what the view would be with those trees gone, or that hill leveled.
