I do pay for a subscription. And I was one of the early writers here that was invited to join the MPP when it first started. Maybe they have changed their mission statement since 2017 when I joined, but I remember it used to say something like, “Medium is a place to give writers a voice.” It didn’t say, “Medium is a place to give writers that use clever SEO, only write in the hot topics, or don’t write at all but use shit like ChatGTP to pump out content a voice.”
