Great reminder of just how bad things are and how much work needs to be done if you are going to have a living ocean in the next few decades. Not too mention life supporting planet possibly by the end of the century.

I visited the Great Barrier Reef in Australia in 2007 and vast stretches of the coral was already dead. More than likely the death of The Great Barrier Reef is irreversible at this point. The fact that we are killing one of the largest living organisms on the planet should be enough to convince us to make drastic changes, but it seems that our blind obedience to our human created economic system always takes precedence. I hope we wise up in time
