Actually that scene in the movie was very loosely based on a supposedly real encounter between Bruce Lee and Gene Labelle. So the story goes, on the set of the Green Hornet there was a disagreement and Bruce became arrogant and pushy with one of the cast members (I love Bruce Lee, but apparently he could be a jerk at times, as is common with highly talented people I think.)
Gene Labelle had been hired as a stunt coordinator for the show was on the set that day. After Bruce pushed the other cast member Gene picked Bruce up in a fireman’s carry and ran around the set with him over his shoulders.
Later Bruce and Gene became great friends and trained together. Gene was one of main influences on Bruce’s style of grappling.
